Senior Club Offers Monthly Activities

Barbara Hellmann, Kay Sweeney and Carol Mullen enjoy the fellowship at the monthly Senior Club meetings.

“The purpose of this club is to get seniors out and doing things we enjoy doing.” That’s how Norma Jean Ryan, president of the Ft. Mitchell Senior Club, describes the organization. The club provides fellowship, games, and day trips for the 30 to 35 people who show up at the meetings held in the fellowship hall of Blessed Sacrament Church.

At the meetings, which are held on the third Monday of each month at noon, attendees can play Euchre, Poker or Bingo. They can also buy tickets for ‘split the pot’. “We don’t really split the pot,” said club treasurer David Bowman, “we give the winners all of the money.” The members also have a business session and refreshments at each meeting.

A day trip is also optional each month. “Carol Schaefler sets up the trips and our group and the Blessed Sacrament Seniors can participate,” said Ryan. In July the group went to the casino in Rising Sun; on August 10th there is a trip planned to English, Kentucky, where they will participate in the Home Cooked Meal and Show; and on September 12th club members can visit the Elk Creek Winery.

According to Joan Franz, the club secretary, “We welcome all visitors. They don’t have to live in Ft. Mitchell or belong to Blessed Sacrament. We want everyone.” Bowman agrees, “Anybody who wants to come is welcome. But maybe they should be over 50.”
