New Music School Opening in Former "Framed NKY" Location

Caileen Tallant will open a new music studio in the Central Business District of Fort Thomas.

A former instructor from Slater Music Academy will soon be opening her own music studio in the former Framed NKY location on North Fort Thomas Avenue.

Slater Music Academy announced in March that it would be merging with NKU Preparatory Academy. Owner Rebecca Slater thanked the community for 24 years of service and now plans on moving to Kenton County and starting her new business - Rebecca Slater Music. She will continue teaching private voice and piano lessons and also serve as music director at St. Pius X Church and provide music for weddings, recitals and special events throughout the greater Cincinnati area.

Former instructor Caileen Tallant started teaching part-time at Slater Music Academy in 2017 when she moved from Texas to Cincinnati to attend grad school at UC's College Conservatory of Music. With over 6 years of teaching experience, she specializes in voice and piano instruction. "I've been teaching for several years and taught all through undergrad as well. I found out I really liked it and I really wanted to continue."

Now, Caileen is planning on launching her own studio on July 1. The "Tallant Music Studio" will allow her to offer piano, voice and songwriting lessons...as well as featuring former Slater Music Academy instructors that specialize in other instruments such as guitar, ukulele, bass, electric guitar, strings (violin, viola, cello), music composition and music theory.

The decision to stay in Fort Thomas was an easy one for Caileen. "I knew I wanted to stay in NKY because I feel so welcome there. We have a strong student base and while NKU is a great opportunity, it wasn't the first choice for a lot of our families. I thought about this for awhile and decided that I definitely wanted to find a place in Fort Thomas."

So, the next step was to find a place. That's when she came across the former Framed NKY building. Framed NKY relocated to Crescent Springs in January. "The first floor is perfect. We were already operating out of three rooms at Slater Music Academy and it's only 200 ft from that location as well as being walking distance to the schools and right on main drag. It has a great front porch with a swing so if the Coronavirus keeps us from having too many people inside, we can have outdoor classes and an outdoor waiting room. The building also has pocket doors between two of the biggest rooms so we can open those up and offer larger group classes there like Kinder music during the day for ages zero to five-years-old and then kids can bring their parents and siblings to the classes as well," said Caileen.

Teaching these types of group classes for small children was one of Caileen's favorite experiences. "I was teaching assistant for a Music Together class in San Antonio. It's just playing music and letting kids explore...and their parents too! It teachers both of them at the same time and they experience it together and there is dancing and movement-type things we can do with it too. We'll have to get creative with Covid-19 since we can't really share instruments in these types of classes...but we'll find a way to keep kids engaged."

Although Caileen has taught many ages, there is one thing that is always the same. "I always tell people, I have students from age 4 to 72. Music just brings everyone together!"
