Park Re-named in honor of Officer Sonny Kim

Park dedication in honor of Police Officer Sonny Kim in East Hyde Park.

East Hyde Park Commons at 3357 Erie Avenue (across from the intersection with Marburg) has been re-named Police Officer Sonny Kim Park. It was dedicated by The City of Cincinnati, working with the Cincinnati Recreation Commission, in memory of Officer Kim who died in 2015 in the line of duty.  The location was selected because of its proximity to the Police District Two headquarters, where Officer Kim had been assigned prior to his death.

The park re-naming was due to the efforts of Cincinnati Councilwoman Amy Murray (Mt. Lookout), Mayor John Cranley (Hyde Park) and City Council.

In a news release, Councilwoman Murray said, "After talking to CPD and District Two staff, we felt this was the best way to create a lasting memory in honor of Sonny Kim and his family. It seems so insignificant in light of the sacrifice that Sonny gave for his fellow citizens. Ultimately, we hope that every time we drive by this park or spend time there, we will be reminded to look for an opportunity to say thank you to our first responders who serve."
