Help it Happen-- A Permanent Performance Pavilion on the Village Green

By Cynthia Smith

Love community events on the Village Green? Imagine how much better they would be if we had a permanent space for live entertainment, complete with a 16’ x 24’ raised stage, a ramp for equipment loading, and room for sound equipment and permanent sponsor advertising.
As part of the 2018 Master Plan, the City of Wyoming and the Wyoming Recreation Foundation are making it happen, perhaps as early as 2020.

“We want to make the most of our Village Green,” says City Manager Lynn Tetley. “With so many events taking place there, a permanent stage will be a focal point for the community.”
A design contest (submissions were due July 31) will determine the look. Response to the appeal for sponsors will determine the timing. The City is allocating $50,000 through the Recreation Foundation for the project, and another $50,000 will be raised within the community.

The design contest for the Wyoming Village Green Performance Pavilion has just finished, but opportunities for sponsorship are still available.
Here are three ways to be part of the project:
WYOMING ACHIEVEMENT SPONSOR - $5,000 (four available)
Etched brick with your name permanently by the pavilion.

Name listed on the City of Wyoming website.
Inclusion in all announcements regarding the pavilion.
Inclusion in all social media posts regarding the pavilion.
Inclusion in all print materials related to the pavilion.

WYOMING LEGACY SPONSOR - $1,000

One-time donations for amounts below $500 are also being accepted, and donors will be listed on the City website. Make checks payable to: Wyoming Recreation Foundation, 800 Oak Ave., Wyoming, OH 45215. All donations are tax-deductible.

Monica Tuck, freelance producer and volunteer with the Recreation Foundation and the City of Wyoming, is spearheading the effort with Lynn. “The idea is to promote the Arts, Culture, Entertainment, and Community Togetherness. We want to keep Wyoming’s beloved traditions, but add new, fresh concepts to keep people here on weekends,” she explains. “We have begun to hold large events on the Green and people are taking notice. The pavilion will enhance the Green, build our appeal to surrounding communities, and help Wyoming’s small businesses.”

Creating a Regional Draw
The pavilion will be situated at the north end of the Green by the fire station, opening up the space. The gazebo will be relocated to the lawn behind the Civic Center. “The gazebo is used for gatherings and photography, so it will still be available, just in a different space,” notes Monica.
“Wyoming offers 45 free events per year,” she added, “and will be more of a regional draw with a rebranded Village Green.

Volunteers are needed to serve on the Recreation Foundation. If you are interested, contact Monica at monicatuck@unbridledstudio.com.
