Urban Sketchers of Cincinnati visited our architectural gem of a town on April 21. Men, women, and children parked themselves along the sidewalks and in front of the historical houses and churches of Burns and Worthington Avenues, and then they set to work. Donning pencils, pens, charcoal, and even watercolors, the results were impressive.

The gang of artists and hobbyists showed off their sketches after the morning session (and before they headed to lunch together). |
Urban Sketchers is not unique to Cincinnati. The idea grew from a journalist’s mind to a website to a nonprofit organization 10 years ago. The Cincinnati Chapter officially started almost a year ago, and Wyoming’s Jeb Brack is one of the four administrators. The group meets monthly all over the Cincinnati area. The organization is free and all ages and abilities are welcome.
The group posts their scheduled outings on Facebook, and you can see their work there, on Instagram @cincyurbansketchers, or on Twitter @USkCincinnati.
Urban Sketchers of Cincinnati Manifesto:
We draw on location, indoors or out, capturing what we see from direct observation.
Our drawings tell the story of our surroundings, the places we live and where we travel.
Our drawings are a record of time and place.
We are truthful to the scenes we witness.
We use any kind of media and cherish our individual styles.
We support each other and draw together.
We share our drawings online.
We show the world, one drawing at a time.
