Around Town: Wyoming Musicians Represent at OMEA Honor Orchestra

Wyoming seventh and eighth grade students performed in the OMEA District 14 concert on January 20.

A select group of Wyoming seventh and eighth grade string students represented the Wyoming String Program at Princeton High School on January 19 and 20 for the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) District 14 Junior High Honor Orchestra.

Mr. Patrick Pearson of Chicago, Conductor of the Midwest Young Artists Conservatory, visited Wyoming Middle School on January 19 to work with all sixth, seventh, and eighth grade violin students. Patrick also rehearsed on Friday evening and Saturday with select OMEA performers, and he conducted the OMEA concert January 20 with students from the Tri-State Area. Patrick was impressed with the Wyoming students and their enthusiasm.

One Wyoming eighth grade student returning home from the experience said, "I wish I could have this experience more than once a year. Everybody there had a brain like mine, thought like me, and loved playing the violin."

Students selected for this experience were Maggie Broderick, Thompson Blade, Sophie Chen, Elizabeth Duke, Sandhya Iyer, Paige Jerrell, Sydney Lawrence, Calvin McCullumsmith, Ian McIlvain, and Andrew Zimmerly.
Congratulations to all involved!

Patrick Pearson of Chicago was the guest conductor at the OMEA District 14 concert which featured students from around the region, including ten Wyoming Middle School students.
Syndy Casey, Orchestra Director Princeton City Schools; Patrick Pearson, Guest Conductor for OMEA District 14 concert; and Lynn Denney, Orchestra Director Wyoming City Schools worked with the students at the OMEA concert.
